Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art and combat sport based on ground fighting. BJJ focuses on taking an opponent to the ground, controlling them, and ultimately gaining a dominant position in which they can be submitted. Jiu Jitsu relies on the use of leverage and technique to overcome strength and size.

Gi and NoGi are the two forms of uniform in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. A gi is a kimono that can come in different colors and slightly different materials. The gi is worn and tied together by a belt dependent on the grappler's respective rank color. Jiu Jitsu in the gi is grappling while wearing the kimono — you're able to use and grab the gi to control your opponent and perform different techniques. NoGi grappling is without a gi and is much closer to wrestling. In NoGi grappling, you cannot grab your opponent's clothing, and it's solely based on control through limbs and the body.
